Project Black PC (part 7)
Sorry about the dull name.
No need to drill a pilot hole, just use one of the dozens of vent holes. Then keep drilling until there's a hole big enough to drop the nibbler cutting head through. Remember to cut this on the waste side. |
Just the right size. |
I did a quick test just to see how easy it would cut this steel... It went through it like a hot knife through butter. |
I clamped the guide in place and started. |
At first I used my cordless drill because I thought it would be easier to keep on track without a cord trailing behind however... |
First corner negotiated. It got a little tight and it was hard to keep it hard up against the guide. Also as I suspected the cordless didn't really have enough power. so I changed over to the good old "plug it in" drill. |
This just flew through the steel sending little sharp bits everywhere. It really is a wonderful tool. |
And out it pops. Most of the time taken was spent changing the position on the guide. |
Here is the panel offered up to the fan shroud. |
Next time I think I will make a jig to hold the work to the bench and try a guide on the outside of the hole being cut. I think this will make it easier to keep on track.
